It's Been a Long Time

Another year is here and it's time to do what's right.  Teach these students the importance of Business Education.  We will be posting assignments and other things that are going on in the classroom.  Currently, there are 3 grade levels that I will be teaching.

6th grade
Key Functional Components of a Computer

7th and 8th grade
Ergonomics

We are working together to get the assignments done.  Give us a few days to get things together and we will be posting.  The year will be wonderful, watch!

Probability Games Math Skills

My Homeroom is an 8th grade math skills class. Currently, we are creating Probability Games for 4th-5th grade students. They are working in groups to create this assignment. They had to search online for game ideas. This is a group project.

The rubric consisted of:
Game title
Purpose
Age group
Directions

Once they finished the games. They will switch games and play them. Next, they will give feedback to each group on how the game actually played with the directions that were given.

A Start to a New Year

Good morning, this is the start of the 2011-2012 school term at "The Best Middle School in the World," Fort Middle School in Columbus, GA. There are many exciting things that we will be learning this year. For instance, those students that do not know how to type correctly will be taught that skill. Also, due to students being actively engaged with social media there will be an extensive lesson on Cyberbullying, its effects, and how to prevent it.

Each grade level will have different assignments, but overall, everyone will leave this class with the necessary skills to enter the work force, and achieve academic and personal potential.

I look forward to teaching and learning from each and every one of you! Let's start the school year out on a positive note and understand that we are all here to work together to achieve a common goal.

CYBER-BULLYING

In Ms. Jackson class I've learned how to make brochures. I've also learned how to make flyers. During Ms. Jackson class I've learned how to put my typing scores in excel to document the rate of my typing speed to show how I've improved my typing. Also I have learned to feel out applications to get me a job and everything in the nature of working at a bussiness.

My Typing Class

My name is Christopher and I am from Fort Middle School. I take a typing class and it's really fun to be in. We do many things of course typing which is important because you will need these skills one day. We do other things besides typing rarely. For instance, we do our warm ups called do nows that our teacher Ms. Jackson will usually give 10 minutes to do. When we're done with our typing lessons that's when we really do alot more things like going to CoolMath and other cool websites like that. She just went over Internet Safety. This includes, things on cyberbullying, cell phone tips, sexting, and exactly what is Internet Safety. Ms. Jackson let us watch some videos on cyberbullying, sexting, and Internet Safety. Once we watched the videos, we played games on the topic. After that, we learned how to create a brochure on cyberbullying using Microsoft Publisher, it's not really hard to do and quick to finish maybe 2 or 3 days. You just have to remember that there are two sides to the brochure. That's pretty much it, we've done so far, but I bet we will do lots more!

The 1st 9 Weeks is Over

We have been in school now an entire semester. I told my students that we have to realize that we are only in this class for an entire 9 weeks. The reason being is that we are on a A/B schedule. This means that I only see every class every other day. Since this is so, instead of being in the class for 90 days we are in here for only 45. With the 9 weeks being over now we only have 20+ days left in this class. Boy, time goes by fast when you are having fun in class.

There are so many standards to be covered in a semester. It seems as if there is not enough time to give the students the tools they need to succeed. As long as everyone finishes the keyboard I know that they have been given the right tools to be able to type and type correctly.

Keyboarding Class

Since I already know how to type Ms. Jackson started me on my numbers and symbols. In order to type your symbols you have to use your shift keys (right or left). You use your left shift for your right hand and right shift for your left hand. If you don't use your shift keys you will only type the numbers.

I took this class last year and learned my alphabetic keyboard. This year, Ms. Jackson started me on my numbers and symbols. Ms. Jackson allows us to make-up missed work. She also gives us an opportunity to do our Do Now's on the SmartBoard. We usually do our keyboarding for 30 minutes and after that we can get on FreeRice or Brainbashers.

Business Ed In Homeroom

Hi I'm Shunthenia, I am in Ms. Jackson's Business Education homeroom at Fort Middle School. In homeroom we discuss how to function in society by using good money management. We also talk about how our society works and is set up. This class teaches something that no other class will teach you. The idea of a Business Education class is brilliant. The class helps our generation learn what all the ones before us didn't. Now all people that have the priveledge to take this class will be prepared for their future.

Since we have been discussing money, Ms. Jackson has made us aware of what people do with their everyday lives and money. Many people get up every morning, go to work, come home, watch televison, eat dinner, go to bed, to get up and do the same thing the next do. We don't think about what it is we want to do, if we do, we don't think we can achieve those things. Ms. Jackson asked us to think outside the box. 2010-2011 School Term

Good morning,

This starts another school year at a different school (Fort Middle). I am still in the same county. This year there will be many things going on within my classroom. Since I have changed schools, I have realized that that are so many other things that can be done within my classroom.

During this term, I will try to have an example of students work and/or have a student post at least once a week.

I am excited about the new year, the new school, the new students, and my new co-workers!

I anticipate having a wonderful year. Teaching the students how to type and use the programs to their benefit. First I must ensure that all students are able to type correctly, using the right fingers for the right keys. Next, we will go into depth with the standards. As the year progresses, students will post what they have learned and maybe show an example of their work.

Hello, I am D. Lamb and I am in Ms. Jackson's 7th grade keyboarding and Computer Applications class. We have been working on Internet Safety for Teens. First, we researched Cyberbullying, Sexting, and Cell Phone Tips. Then we created a brochure and flier on the topic. We even played some games using the Smartboard. I found out that those three topics can effect every and anyone. There have been several cases of teens killing themselves due to Cyberbullying and Sexting. Please be mindful of these topics because they can have an influence on your life too.

Hi, My name is Myoshi Turner and I am in the 6th grade. Currently, I am learning how to create a brochure. The brochure we are creating is on Internet Safety. There are four specific things that we are discussing pertaining to Internet Safety. They are Cyberbullying, Sexting, Internet Safety, and Cell Phone Tips.


1. Cyberbulling is bullying which is carried out through an internet service such as email, chat room, discussion group or instant messaging. It can also include bullying through mobile phone technologies such as short message services ringing about Cyberbulling.

2. Sexting is sending obscence pictures of yourself via the Internet or cell phone.

3. Internet Safety: making sure you do not give out personal information via the Internet, email, chat rooms, discussion groups or via instant messaging.

4. Cell Phone Tips: Not sending nasty or vulgar text messages, do not give out personal information using your cell phone.

Ms. Jackson uses the Smartboard to show us videos pertaining to Cyberbullying. We have also played games to support Internet Safety on the Smartboard.

These are a few things that we are learning in my keyboarding class. Another thing, I am also learning how to type using the correct fingers for the correct keys.

Maslow's Hierachy of Human Needs

Our next project is Creating a Budget. The first step was to create a Tree Map on Maslow's Hierachy of Human Needs. This is an example that Diana Martinez a 7th grader created to display her Goals and Decision Making.

The assignment was in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. They used Word Art for the title, the Drawing Tools for the lines, a Text Box for the words, and Clip Art for the pictures. Overall, this is a great example of Maslow's Hierachy of Human Needs.

Internet Safety for Kids

My name is Eric Brier and I am in the 6 grade at Baker Middle School. Since the beginning of school I've been learning how to type. We started with our homerow keys and now I know the entire alphabet without looking at my keys. That is because Ms. Jackson has these black covers over the entire keyboard.

We also have been learning about Internet Safety. I created a brochure on it using Microsoft Publisher. When it comes to using the Internet, never give out personal information on the Internet. If you do your life could be in danger. People can get your information if you give them your e-mail address.

During the time that I have been in my keyboarding class I have really learned many things. Typing is one and just to know where the keys are without looking is a surprise to me. I just knew that I would not be able to do it, but I did. I use the Internet often and now I know that there are people out there that are looking to do bad things to children like me. That is why I will be careful whenever I use the Internet. Internet Safety is a must!
